Teriyaki Pineapple Turkey Burgers

This was something that came out of an ad, with a coupon on it for pineapple slices. It was something different than we normally have which was nice to do something a little different. I would consider ourselves in a rut for food by any means, and we certainly cook a lot of different recipes but sometimes it feels that the recipes are all the same type.

In the end these weren’t awesome but were good. I definitely think that the pineapple on top makes it. Turkey (and chicken for that matter), unlike ground beef, winds up in one big pile of mush when you mix it up like this. As such, the resulting burgers have a different consistency that those made with ground beef. So, add in the pineapple on top helped with some of the texture but more importantly the overall flavor.

When cooking, I went by “feel” for them being done as I’ve done a lot of grilling but you can also stick a meat thermometer in to check if you are concerned about it.

1 can pineapple slices
2 lbs ground turkey
1/2 cup teriyaki sauce
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1/2 TSP ground ginger
Slices of cheddar or Colby-jack cheese

Mix turkey, teriyaki, bread crumbs and ginger. Shape into 8 patties. Grill over medium heat until done. Grill pineapple slices until golden brown. Serve on buns with a cheese slice and pineapple slice.
